China’s open-door policy, instituted in 1979, has enabled it to become one of the world’s economic powerhouses. For almost two decades, China has maintained very impressive economic growth and created tremendous global trade opportunities. Recently, China has become a member of the World Trade Organization, which will require it to lower import taxes and maximize trade and investment potential for western enterprises. As these tariffs are lowered, western products will become more affordable for Chinese consumers. Furthermore, the increase in the number of middle-class Chinese to 200 million plus has made China a huge market for high quality imported goods. With the largest population in the world and a large pool of skilled workers, China also offers excellent opportunities for western companies to source raw materials, manpower, assembly and manufacturing of goods as well as form joint ventures to market and sell their innovative products.
Qingdao, one of the largest Chinese seaports is well known for its automotive, machinery, electronic, home appliance, textile and apparel industries. Qingdao is recognized by many international communities as one of the major Chinese automotive centers for manufacturing, research and development. Many internationally known companies including General Motors, Volvo, FAW, and Shanghai Auto Works have manufacturing facilities in Qingdao.
Since 2004, Qingdao has sponsored this successful automotive and business conference. More than 600 overseas enterprises from the USA, Europe, Japan and Korea have attended the conferences and met thousands of Chinese enterprises. Many of the past participants have found partners and developed business in China through the conference and have expressed to attend again.
In order to meet the great demand from the international and Chinese domestic automotive industries, Qingdao will continue to host the automotive conference from October 17 to 19, 2006. The Third Session on International Investment & Trade Talks for Business Cooperation of Automobile and Auto Parts Enterprises (2006, Qingdao, China) (IITTAA) is approved by the Development & Reform Committee of China and jointly sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE-China), Qingdao Municipal Government, China Automotive Industry Sales-General Corp. and co-sponsored by many international automotive associations. East-West Development, Inc (EWD) is honored to be appointed by the organizers as the exclusive US consultant and coordinator for this exciting event.
As one of the most recognized Chinese international auto conferences, IITTAA will bring back thousands of large and medium size auto industry enterprises from China and overseas to Qingdao. During the event, all the participants will participate in three major business sections:
1. Business Match-Making Talks: The organizer will use the participants’ business profile in recruiting the most suitable Chinese partners for the match-making talks. This event will provide great opportunities for the international participants to meet and talk with more than 1500 Chinese enterprises in finding their business partners in China.
2. Auto & Auto Parts Exhibition and Business Fair: More than 2000 Chinese auto parts manufacturers will showcase their products and look for joint venture and overseas distributors.
3. Automotive Factories Tour: The organizer will arrange for overseas participants to visit the local automotive manufacturers and investigate business opportunities and the overall business environment in Qingdao.
After the conference, we will travel to some of China’s hottest industrial parks in Suzhou to preview how many western enterprises have established their China manufacturing facilities and expanded their international and China domestic business via their China operations. Then we will travel to the world’s largest city, Shanghai, to visit one of the upcoming industrial districts, the Jinshan District, to explore opportunities for sourcing, manufacturing, joint ventures and all kind of cooperation in China. We will also have a chance to enjoy a one-day tour in Shanghai including visits to the famous Yuyuan Garden, Xiangyang Market and Huangpu River. During the entire trip, we will also attend many banquets and dinners featuring delicious and authentic Chinese cuisine. What a wonderful way for first-timers to enter the Chinese market and at the same time learn about the culture and history of ancient China!
